FINALLY, I think that the wait is over...
Verizon Wireless has announced that the Blackberry Tour should be available, soon. Anyone who lives or works in Long Island or New York City knows, that Verizon has the best cell service. (This is not an opinion, it is fact... come on you AT&T guys, admit it. Your service around here sucks!) The problem is that Verizon's selection of advanced hardware is always a step behind.
AT&T Wireless has the iPhone, and the Blackberry Bold. I have opted for Verizon's better reception, thereby sacrificing on the hardware side. To me, the primary purpose of this device is that it's a PHONE, used to make telephone calls!
My Palm Treo has loooong outlived its useful life. It now has developed a mind of its own, locking up and crashing regularly. Hooray, here comes the Blackberry Tour, which looks like it could finally provide great cell service, AND smartphone features, speed and durability that we need. This device "should" be available by July 20. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
I am commenting because you are my boss and told me to ;-)
ReplyDeleteHere's the deal... Verizon will not accept any orders for this phone until July 12. Despite the fact that I pay a ridiculous amount of money to Verizon each month, I am going to have to stand on line with the common-folk. Therefore, I intend to camp out at the Verizon Store on Sunday morning, July 12. I'll be bringing a lawn chair, my laptop, and plenty of Starbucks. If anyone would like to join me, we can have a party. Bring bagels, etc.
ReplyDeleteThanks to my friend Rob Silverman, a.k.a. "The Gadget King", I no longer have to wait on line at the Verizon Store like a teenage roadie. Rob alerted my that Best Buy is advertising pre-orders with a $50 deposit, and guaranteed in-store pickup on July 12. http://www.rimarkable.com/pre-order-verizon-blackberry-tour-at-best-buy-for-50
ReplyDeleteThanks again to Rob for staying on top of the gadgets, (as he always does!)
Greg, a.k.a Skywing, let me know that reviews are already coming in about the Blackberry Tour, and that they seem favorable. As I am writing this, my Treo POS is locked up again. Can't wait to BBM. Now I can be cool like my kids.

stop bitching and get the blackberry already! love and miss you by the wayy! xoxo<3
ReplyDeleteWOO-HOO! I just got the call that my shiny-new Blackberry Tour has arrived at Best Buy. It made me feel even better to find out that the entire store received only seven units, and that I was #1 on the list. I have the privelege of buying this phone tomorrow at 11:00am. Gentlemen, start your BBM's. My Palm Treo is being sent into not-so-early smart-phone retirement.
ReplyDeleteThanks again to Rob "The Gadget King" Silverman, for his note about the Best Buy reservation thing. Had it not been for him, I'd be standing on line at the Verizon Store at some un-godly hour of the morning.
Reviews to follow, but I'm pretty sure this will be a winner.
BTW, Best Buy received seven units for sale this past Sunday. (I was #1.) The Verizon Store in Massapequa received 260 units. At least I didn't have to wake up at 4am to wait on line.
ReplyDeleteThis is one cool piece of hardware. I never had a blackberry before. I was an expert, within minutes of taking it out of the box. BBM's, mail-setup, it's a breeze. The sync to my Outlook went perfectly. Great camera, too. (Take it from me, the picture-guy.) Very sleek design, too. So far, I'm a happy camper.
Say a prayer for my old Palm, which is now in Treo heaven. I haven't spoken to anyone who yet who bought the Palm Pre, but IMHO, Blackberry has the best technology of the day.
Leslie still thinks I'm crazy. However, I am BBM'ing Danielle, who's in Italy. This is great!
So I get a call from Kaden today, asking me how I like my Blackberry Tour. I tell him that I love it, but that it's my first Blackberry, and I have nothing to compare it to. Definately better than my old Treo, (which blows.) So I call in the big guns to give me the working comparison.
ReplyDeleteDanielle, a Blackberry Curve expert, says that she loves her Curve, and has no complaints at all. She finds it smaller than the Tour. The only plus granted for the Tour by Danielle is that, "it's sleeker."
Well, there you have it. I needed to be the first kid on the block to have this shiny new toy, (I mean tool.) I do love it. It does what it's supposed to do, and doesn't shut off when it's not supposed to.
As is usually the case, Verizon is last to introduce cutting-edge hardware. (Why don't they have the 9700 available yet???) However, I received an email yesterday from Verizon offering FREE Push2Talk. Sure enough, it's true. This promotion will run until June 30. You can install the software on your Blackberry Tour, and then call Verizon to enable the service on your account for free. Copy and paste the link below for more details.
